Tegan and Sara have released the official video for Closer and it’s all that I hoped it would be and more! I’ve been anticipating its release since my original post on the song written a couple of months back. The indie-pop, teen dream house party scene that the video depicts sparks a youthfully nostalgia. Feathery boas, masks, pastel balloons, streamers, dancing and party-goers making out – it’s JUST like that party you threw while your parents were out of town in 9th grade. There’s even a television with bunny ears, song lyrics appearing in karaoke style, a fun-for-dancing trampoline, and the inevitable game of spin the bottle.
The pre and post party anxiety and anxiousness is present in the duos body language as they commiserate with one another the way sisters might over the perils of being young and wanting to somehow get Closer to that special crush. Memories of the days when sexual urges were suppressed, not knowing how to make that first move, but knowing just how badly you wanted to. /All you think of lately is getting underneath me/All I’m dreaming lately is how to get you underneath me/
I bet you anything that that video was just as fun to film as it is to watch. Right down to smearing lipstick all over each other’s faces. Oh, and can we just talk about those floral printed couches that have since come back in style? Nice choice ladies.
Their Montreal show was last night! Were you there? Was it amazing?
The album Hearthrob is set to be released in all of its entirety on January 29th. iTunes seems to have the ins, so if you want to pre-order a copy of your own you can do so via the iTunes store.
