VIDEO: Lady Gaga’s ‘Judas’

Lady Gaga has kept her fans on pins and needles, tweeting stills, from ‘Judas’ all week. Well it is here. (If you look hard enough anyway.) (UPDATE: Gaga’s people have finally been forced to release the video early after it was leaked on the internet early this morning. It was originally supposed to be released tonight on E! Can’t fight the little internet monsters.)

Lady Gaga’s very hotly anticipated ‘Judas’ is here. I wrote last week about her Judas’ debut on Ellen that I didn’t really get it, but the video is really, aesthetically, fantastic. I love the leather, motorbikes, metal, and thorns. Nobody can say Gaga isn’t a good story teller.

All I can say is that I am thrilled to not see all the vagina/birthing gore of Born This Way. I still haven’t totally figured out the ‘Judas’ thing, but this is what Gaga has to say about it:

The theme of the video and the way that I wanted to aesthetically portray the story was as a motorcycle Fellini movie where the apostles are revolutionaries in a modern-day Jerusalem.

And I play Mary Magdalene leading them into the town where we meet Jesus and I will leave the rest for you to see.”

But it’s meant more to celebrate faith than it is to challenge it.

Judas is a metaphor and an analogy about forgiveness and betrayal and things that haunt you in your life and how I believe that it’s the darkness in your life that ultimately shines and illuminates the greater light that you have upon you.

So the song is about washing the feet of both good and evil and understanding and forgiving the demons from your past in order to move into the greatness of your future.

Little Monsters, what do you think? Did it live up to the hype? Better?

  1. Ty

Gotta say this.. While driving to Quebec City last weekend I told my cousin how Gaga’s music never appeals to me the first time I hear it. I even said, ‘Fuck, I hate this new Gaga song but wait.. I’ll like it next week’

So true, really digging this song now.

    FRIG!

  2. Yup! Me too. I say the same thing. I’m always a bit ‘meh’ and then I hear it a few more times and you know I’ll be dancing to it the next time you see me. It’s taken me until now to start to like this song, but now I do.
