Welcome to #MTLife, a little column about my adventures in Montreal.

For my first foray as a writer for the Gaily, I wanted to write about my night out at an event celebrating the 20th anniversary of Le Saloon, the best restaurant in the village (IMHO) and still after 20 years,
the place to see and be seen. Thought I don’t tend to hang out in the village a lot (I prefer to think of Montreal as my village) I do go to Saloon as often as I can because I love it there. I love the Thursday 5à7; I love the food, the people and the atmosphere. Simple enough, right?

I knew the night was going to be trouble* as soon as I took my first sip of champagne. I toasted to the 20 years of Saloon with Ty (founder of this fab little website) and then proceeded to down my first glass. No sooner had I found the bottom of my glass when, shazzam, it was full again; the lads at Saloon are professionals. (Check out all the official event photos here).Last week’s anniversary even had a circus theme complete with acrobats and jugglers and hoop jumpers and a carousel pony (I’m sad I didn’t get to try to get on any of them, especially the pony). I was very busy trying to capture as many photos of the amazing acrobats as I could with my iPhone while trying not to drop my Absolut raspberry on the floor. Have you ever tried to take a picture with your phone while holding a drink? It’s not easy and I was looking out for the best interests of the performers (humanitarian alert!!).

I loved the opportunity to chat with people I only see at these types of events and my mean side is always happy to see those passersby who really want to be in on the action but sadly just walk on by with their IGA bags full of chips and cat food.

Tyrone had another commitment so he had to leave a little earlier than me. I stuck around for a while longer, but not before I realized that if I had one more glass of champagne, or another Perrier drink or a cocktail perfected by Absolut, I would be on my ass and would have to crawl home.

I love the nightlife. I love going out and having those random amazing times in the city with great friends, food and drink.
