What’s more awesome than a sunny Sunday afternoon in Montreal? Why, a sunny afternoon at Piknic Electronik of course! For the few who remain unconverted, listen up friends: Piknic is quite possibly my favorite place in the world. A huge outdoor party where you get to drink outside without the pretense of or need to poorly disguise your bottles in hobo-chic paper bags.
Piknic is an innovative weekly event that redefines picnics at the park in a super f*cking hot new way. It’s a place where you’re treated to the best electronic music the world has to offer without being confined to the bro-heavy environment of Montreal nightlife. It’s a place where you get to see the city’s rich diversity actually come to life as people of all kinds co-exist harmoniously – and slightly intoxicatedly – while dancing and reveling in the beauty of Parc-Jean Drapeau.
With a gorgeous view of the St Lawrence River and Old Montreal, you’ll find yourself entranced with the charming city skyline and the mix of hedonism, substance-abuse, and family-oriented culture unique to this event. Whether you’re a gay man still raging from last night’s after-hours, a mom with three kids in desperate need of a change of scenery, or a first year student still in shock that she can drink at her relatively young age in Quebec, chances are you’ll find yourself extremely comfortable with the ‘come one, come all’ atmosphere.
But, it is all fun and games until someone gets hurt, so listen up:
What to wear:
Wear comfortable shoes and leave your hottest outfit at home. Trust me. You’re going to do a lot of dancing and you don’t want to do it in anything but your most dance friendly footwear. Chances are someone’s also going to spill beer on you at some point so it helps if you switch up your Sunday best and choose something less precious. So as awesome as it sounds to rock those brand new white boat shoes , try to opt for something slightly more stain-resistant.
The entry fee is 12$ (but it’s free for children 12 or under!)
You can only purchase tickets onsite and on the day of the event, which starts at 2pm and runs until 9pm. Should it be raining, the website is updated by 10 AM with all the info. And if it is indeed raining that day, put your ear to the window and listen closely cause you’ll be able to hear thousands of Piknic lovers cursing the heavens for the shitty weather.
Piknic runs all the way through September 25th 2011 to help you utilize every last morsel of summer.
For directions on how to get here, the following link provides you with a map and detailed info on how to make your way down to the site whether you’re biking, rollerblading, or taking the metro.
Food and Drinks
Alcohol and other beverages are sold on site as well as a variety of food options. This being a picnic after all, everyone can also bring in their own food and drinks. If you do choose to bring your own alcohol, you’re required to pack a full lunch. Whether you end up eating it is however your prerogative.
Their policy on bringing your own alcohol is the following: Outside alcohol will be strictly limited to 750ml of wine (one bottle) OR the equivalent of 1.1 litres of beers (3 small cans of 355ml or 2 tall cans of 500ml, etc) per person. It is still prohibited to bring hard liquor.
So friends, Disney Land can go fuck itself. This is the actual happiest on earth.
