L-Word’s Leisha Hailey Kicked Off Plane After Lesbian Kiss(es), Twitter Saga Ensues

gb sep 27

Alice Pieczeki/Leisha Hailey of L-Word fame, and member of the music group Uh-Huh Her was escorted off a Southwestern Airline recently after kissing her girlfriend on the plane. However, there are two seperate stories as to how much of the kissing there was.

Leisha Hailey tweets: “I have been discriminated againes by @SouthwestAir. Flt attendant said that it was ‘family’ airline and kissing was not ok.”

Southwest Airlines rebuts: “Our crew, responsible for the comort of all Customers on board, approached the passengers based solely on behavior and not gender.”

Leisha Hailey tweets: “We were escorted off the plane for getting upset about the issue. @SouthwestAir endorses homophobic employees. No one made her accountable.”

Southwest Airlines rebuts: “The conversation escalated  to a level that was better resolved on the ground, as opposed to in flight. We are ready to work directly with the passengers involved to offer our hearfelt apologies for falling short of thier expectation.”

Hailey continues to tweet, adding, “Since when is showing affection towards someone you love illegal? I want to know what Southwest Airlines considers as “family.”  I know plenty of wonderful same sex families I would like to introduce them to. Boycott @SouthwestAir if you are gay. They don’t like us.”

So, what came first? The complaint by the passengers, or the reaction of the airline? Was the kissing really extensive, like third base, or was it simply first, maybe second base? Is Southwest homophobic, or are they simply reacting to too much loving in public? Is Southwest not homophobic, but reacting to a customer’s homophobia?

Whatever the reason may be, we are at a place in the world where these questions need to be examined. I can imagine two women kissing on a plane can cause some discomfort to some passengers and staff. I can’t even walk down the street holding my girlfriend’s hand without looks. If a customer complains, and the airline staff kick them off is that homophobia? Or, is it simply labeled homophobic because two women were on their way to some girl-on-girl soft-core on an airplane?

I can imagine that this story isn’t going away fast, so buckle your seatbelts folks, we are in for a bumpy ride.
