RIP Steve Jobs, We Love The Cool Stuff You Made #isad

First my twitter feed went ballistic announcing the unfortunate death of Steve Jobs. Then came the Facebook responses: “OMG NO!”, and “I can’t believe it…” or “Nooooo :(” and even “Man this is tragic” followed by the simple and irreverent “#isad”.

A more official commentary on the matter comes from Apple itself in a statement following the decease of it’s brilliant co-founder and chairman, stating, “Steve’s brilliance, passion and energy were the source of countless innovations that enrich and improve all of our lives. The world is immeasurably better because of Steve.”

“Apple has lost a visionary and creative genius, and the world has lost an amazing human being. Those of us who have been fortunate enough to know and work with Steve have lost a dear friend and an inspiring mentor. Steve leaves behind a company that only he could have built, and his spirit will forever be the foundation of Apple.”

His family assures the world that Jobs “died peacefully today surrounded by his family…We know many of you will mourn with us, and we ask that you respect our privacy during our time of grief.”

Which is totes understandable. How much of a pain would it be to have to deal with media and all these dedicated beings that live for Apple, hanging at your door asking for a statement, prying details and shedding their own distress onto you… as if you already didn’t have enough of that yourself.

In 2004, Steve Jobs first came to know of a cancerous tumor in his pancreas and consequently underwent surgery. Unfortunately this wasn’t the last of it. His health condition led to his resignation this August when he handed over the reins of the company to Tim Cook.

Let’s remember that the man you mourn today had not always been in such a successful position. Don’t always listen to what the mothers always say about college drop-outs; Jobs was in school for a semester and then proceeded to take the odd course here and there until finally he had enough and found his way back to California and then later went off to India. At the age of 21, in the garage of the Jobs family, he and Steve Wozniak founded Apple Computer inc. This was in 1976. Hard to believe that this clever little invention that sits on my lap – and that is the source of this post-writing – started off 35 years ago by a guy my age. As we’ve all heard, success came and went over the years; sometimes products reached great popularity and other times epic failure. At one of these ‘fail’ moments, in 1985 Apple fell into the shit pit which led Jobs to be fired. But he was appointed interim CEO again in 1997 which became his official position in 2000. We know what happened from then on, things failed and succeeded again and that’s how we got to where we are today. I so envy the determination.

“Remembering that you are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose,” Mr. Jobs stated when beginning his speech at Stanford University in June 2005. Not only did Jobs change the computer world but just look around you: the hot products from iphones, ipads, ipods, and Macbooks permeate our world. Jobs created the world we live in today. Can you imagine the world without these Apple products? We live off of them. Now that these products have been established in our techy society, and have become a ‘need’,  what does the future hold for the Apple World? Sure he resigned a few weeks ago but really, now he’s gone, and now if Apple falls in the shit pit again, who will bring it back up?

Thoughts? Feelings? Sharing is caring.
