So WTF?
OK, so we’ve all seen Pinterest explode across the interwebz and I am sure you’ve been asking yourself What the fuck is Pinterest anywayz? I have to admit I really didn’t want to entertain the idea of having yet another social media platform to manage but lo and behold, I joined Pinterest. I figured, as your proud technigay, it was the right thing to do. For the public interest.
So, what is it anyway?
Well, according to them.. it’s a Virtual Pinboard that lets you organize and share all the beautiful things you find on the web.
Basically, if you find something on the web that you think is cool you upload it and it becomes a pin. You can then organize your pins onto themed boards. For example, I called mine Food/Eats, Home things I need/want, Beards and Pretty Boys (fashion), and Things I find cool (design). I find it fun just pinning pictures of things I like. Some people have very specific things in mind. For example, a party planner might want to pin things they want to have at their parties. Similarly, a gardener may want to pin great posts about gardening etc.

How to Pin.
Pinning is easy. You can install the Pin it button on your browser by going to their Goodies section. I dragged it to my bookmarks bar in Chrome but I’m sure you can do the same in Firefox etc. It’s a simple drag-and-drop browser extension. When you come across something you like, click that pin it button and then click the image you’d like to pin and then BAM! It’s now on your Pinterest. See Mel’s “Music Video Vendredi” pin on my board.

Connect with your friends.
Obviously this is the sort I thing you want to share with your friends. If you see something on a friend’s board that you like, you can re-pin it. Alternatively, you can search through random people’s boards using the search feature based on kinds of things you like. You can even follow someone’s updates to a specific board. There’s plenty of options here. Oh, just like other social media sites.. you can join people to your Pin shares by mentionig them with a @. They’ll be notified that they’ve been mentioned.
Invite only.
If you want to check out Pinterest, you have to sign up. There is a bit of a wait but if you have a ‘friend’ invite you then you should be good to go. (Email me at ty [at] thegaily [dotca] and tweet to me on twitter and I’ll send ya an invite tout de suite !

Happy pinning everyone!
